    Using synthetic rubber's unique rubber elasticity, butadiene resin latex for fiber processing takes on the role of giving added value to various fibers by imparting elasticity and elongation. Using DIC's proprietary polymer design techniques, hard finishes, soft finishes, and resin treatments with little discoloration are possible for fibers and resistance to various chemicals can be imparted to fibers.

    In the background of papers with various functions being launched in markets, there are binders that add those functions to paper.
    DIC has prepared binders to add functions to paper such as hardness, strength, and barrier properties. These binders are supported in many kinds of processing methods including impregnation, size press, and coating. In particular, the special coating agents for moisture-proof paper are excellent as a replacement for film laminated moisture-proof papers that are hard to recycle because they demonstrate excellent moisture-proofing performance by coating paper and from the aspect of recycling aspect as well, paper coated with the moisture-proofing agent can be recycled in normal collection routes.

    Reducing CO2 emissions has been becoming a global issue for the realization of a carbon-free society. In recent years efforts to reduce VOCs and save energy have been active in the coating market as well. Compared to normal temperature / thermosetting resins, UV-curable resins are attracting attention as resins which contribute to sustainability because they reduce the consuming amount of solvent and improve the efficiency of the drying process. Since UV-curable resins can form a coating film with excellent appearance, hardness, and durability, they are used for various surface protection materials such as metals, general-purpose engineering plastics, and wood paints. They are also expected to replace thermosetting resins and to expand into new applications.

    DIC has developed products that meet various required performances such as high hardness, high flexibility, scratch resistance, adhesion to hard-to-adhere substrates and soft feel so that our products are used in many plastic parts and optical materials. In recent years, in order to meet with stricter solvent usage regulations in respective country, we are also focusing on developing water-based UV-curable resins by utilizing various resin design technologies of DIC that we have cultivated past years. We propose solutions & products that meet customer needs with our wide range of knowledge and long experienced capabilities in order to solve various cases that arise toward the realization of sustainability.

    In these days, digital devices such as smartphones and personal computers have become one of the indispensable infrastructures. Optical films are essential components for improving visibility and saving energy, and UV curable resins and coatings are one of the main materials. In addition to hardness, new needs such as abrasion resistance and flexibility are required due to the shift to touch screens in automotive displays and the increase in foldable displays.

    DIC is an early started manufacturer in the field of UV resins for optical films in Japan and has a history of more than 20 years. Based on various resin synthetic technologies, we have responded to customer needs by grasping information accurately in the fast-moving digital device industry and working on product development quickly. Our another strength is to provide a product lineup of not only resins but coatings by utilizing the formulation and dispersion technologies cultivated in printing inks field. We will continue to propose solutions to a wide variety of issues beyond existing applications.

    Hard coatings are used for polarizers and touch screens of displays. By applying hard coatings of UV curable resins to substrates such as PET, TAC, PMMA, PC, COP, and COC, various functions such as high hardness, abrasion resistance, and anti-blocking are imparted.

    DIC began research and development of UV curable resins in the 1970s, and currently holds the top market share* in the field of UV curable resins for hard coatings. The reason for this is that we possess resin synthetic technologies by having a wide product lineup, such as acrylic, urethane, etc. for conventional general paints. DIC's UV curable resin "LUXYDIR" is mainly used for optical films in polarizers, transparent conductive films, display protective films, foldable displays, and automotive displays. DIC's unique resin design technology makes it possible to adjust hardness, flexibility, abrasion resistance, bendability, and refractive index to meet diverse needs.

    Recently, in addition to urethane acrylates and polymer acrylates, our UV curable resins have been highly evaluated in the fields of silica hybrid resins using organic-inorganic hybrid (dispersion) technology and zirconia dispersion resins. This technology can upgrade coating film performance such as hardness and flexibility, as well as functions such as anti-blocking, high dyne, metal adhesion, and high refractive index. In order to contribute to the realization of sustainability, we continue to develop biomass urethane acrylate and address new substrates and performance requirements.
