The world’s first successful commercial producer of Spirulina, the DIC Group began cultivating the algae as a nutritional supplement and manufacturing Spirulina-derived natural blue food coloring Linablue® in the 1970s. Since then, the Group has leveraged its capabilities as a pioneer in this field to promote ongoing basic research and has worked tirelessly to build up formidable know-how in outdoor mass cultivation. Such efforts continue to underpin the Group’s ability to provide high-quality food-grade Spirulina that helps ensure safety and quality for the products in which it is used, as well as peace of mind for customers.

To date, Linablue® has been sold to commercial food product manufacturers in powdered and liquid form in large-volume (minimum of 1 kilograms) packaging units, with only powdered Linablue® offered in small-volume packaging units. However, in recent years restaurants and other customers have expressed the desire for an easy-to-use small-volume liquid version, prompting DIC Lifetec to launch the new small-volume (100 grams) bottled liquid version. As a natural plan-derived pigment extracted from DIC Spirulina, Linablue® continues to attract global attention and is used widely not only by overseas food product manufacturers concerned about food safety, but also by prominent domestic manufacturers, including the producer of a famous soda-flavored frozen confectionery.

Consumer concern about the safety and security of food continues to rise. In light of the increasing number of health-conscious consumers and a shift by major food product manufacturers in Europe and North America to switch from artificial to natural food colorings, the DIC Group will continue to promote the development of products that contribute to food safety and security. In line with its vision of providing “color & comfort” to people’s lives, the Group will step up its efforts to introduce customers in food- and beverage-related industries to the world of Linablue®. The Group will also expand the provision of information to consumers, including through social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
