DIC–AIST Chemical Monodzukuri Collaboration Laboratory Opens at AIST’s Tohoku Research Base —Move designed to invigorate research and expedite development by advancing open innovation—

Tokyo, Japan–DIC announced today the establishment of the DIC–AIST Chemical Monodzukuri Collaboration Laboratory within AIST Tohoku, the Tohoku research base of the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), on April 1, 2016. This move was designed to invigorate research and expedite development by making use of technologies and facilities belonging to AIST.

With the aim of reinforcing its ability to serve as a technological bridge between AIST and industry, the Tohoku research base is promoting the development of corporate-badged and -funded “chemical monodzukuri collaboration laboratories” on its site to facilitate joint research and is currently inviting a wide range of companies to participate in this initiative. DIC is the first company to do so.

Under its current medium-term management plan, DIC108, DIC is promoting the active use of external resources through open innovation as a way to increase the efficiency of efforts to commercialize the results of R&D. The new laboratory was established in line with this initiative.
The laboratory will position DIC to make use of AIST’s unique chemical process technologies and new functional materials, among others, as well as to expedite development by engaging in discussions with AIST researchers, thereby leading realizing next-generation products in such areas as electronics, packaging, healthcare and low carbonization.
