Tokyo, Japan – Sun Chemical, a wholly owned subsidiary of DIC Corporation, will showcase its sustainable pigment solutions for the plastics industry under the theme of ‘Experience. Transformation.’ during Chinaplas 2024 (April 23–April 26, 2024) in Shanghai, China.

Together with its parent company, DIC Corporation, Sun Chemical extends its business footprint to the Asia-Pacific with an elaborate portfolio of pigments that address the dynamic trends of the plastics industry. Visitors of booth #8.2F41 will learn about Sun Chemical’s sustainable coloration solutions for plastics applications with a focus on food safety, plastics recycling, vivid designs and lightweighting for electric vehicles, as well as fine fibers with lasting optimized quality.

“At Sun Chemical, we are dedicated to create advanced solutions that deliver outstanding and reliable solutions to our customers while supporting the sustainable transformation of the plastics industry to contribute to a healthier planet,” said Marc Dumont, Global Business Director, High Performance Pigments, Dyes, and Plastics Preparations, Color Materials, Sun Chemical. “Chinaplas 2024 gives us an opportunity to demonstrate the quality of our pigment products to customers from around the world and to work together to deliver solutions that can achieve goals they have set for their businesses.”

Sun Chemical’s solutions on display will feature pigments for plastics recycling, including Sicopal Black K 0098 FK which exhibits exceptional heat stability with global food contact compliance (including China GB 9685) and has been adopted in food packaging in place of carbon black to enable a thorough waste-sorting process. Also on display will be Microlen® Blue 7460 ECO, which is certified by EN 13432 and designed for bio-compostable plastics, enriching the often-limited coloring options between PCN green and blue.

As post-consumer recycled materials are increasingly used for consumer goods in the plastics industry, minimizing color imperfections, standardizing color tone, and enhancing the texture of plastics parts have become common challenges. Sun Chemical has launched four new premium Benda-Lutz® Compal K aluminum effect pigments to enable greater formulation flexibility from silky to sparkling metallic effects, without the need of carbon black.

For China’s evolving EV market, Sun Chemical will display its comprehensive coloring solutions for common engineering compounds like polyamides (PA), polybutylene terephthalates (PBT), and polyphenylene sulfides (PPS). These pigments are designed for heat and chemical resistance and exhibit both light and weather fastness as well as low migration. A series of orange pigment formulations for high voltage components will be on display that are adaptable to different scenarios and preferences for automotive wrap films and other engineering applications while also meeting standards for heat aging and heat shock stability.

Sun Chemical will also display its complete colorants portfolio – including pigments and dyes – to support industry transformation from bath dyeing to spin dyeing for a more sustainable planet. Sun Chemical offers quality-controlled pigments for spin dyeing that are designed with higher chroma, excellent processing properties and specified filter pressure values. Sun Chemical is also the only company in the world that offers a selected portfolio of colorants that have received OEKO-TEX® ECO PASSPORT certification and meet the standard of ZDHC Level 3.
