DIC is Selected for Inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices Asia Pacific Index, a Leading Benchmark for Sustainability Initiatives, for the Fourth Consecutive Year

Tokyo, Japan–DIC Corporation announced that it has been selected for inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) Asia Pacific Index, part of the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices family of global benchmarks for sustainability initiatives and a prominent environmental, social and governance (ESG) investment indicator. This is the fourth consecutive year DIC has been selected for inclusion.

The DJSI Asia Pacific Index was developed through collaboration between S&P Dow Jones Indices LLC of the United States and RobecoSAM AG of Switzerland. In 2018, the index assessed the performance of approximately 600 companies in the Asia–Pacific region from the perspective of economic, environmental and social performance, from which 150 companies were selected for inclusion, including 15 from materials industries (six from the chemicals sector).

In addition to forward-looking sustainability initiatives implemented to date, in fiscal year 2018 DIC earned acclaim for its work to formulate a human rights policy and an official approach to tax that are in conformity with prevailing global codes and rules. The Company’s work to reduce its environmental impact, including through ongoing efforts to fulfill its duty as a chemicals manufacturer to manage chemical substances and ensure product safety, also received high marks.

Underscoring the priority it places on ESG initiatives, in January 2018 established the ESG Unit. Recognizing ESG as essential to the realization of a sustainable society, the Company works with its approximately 170 Group companies around the world to conduct its operations in a manner that incorporates related concerns. Looking ahead, the DIC Group will continue to strengthen its ESG initiatives with the goal of delivering the value that its stakeholders—including its customers, business partners, local communities, shareholders and investors, and employees—expect.
