HYBRANCH:Hyperbranched Polystyrene

HYBRANCH is the world's first polystyrene born from the application of DIC's polystyrene synthesizing and hyperbranching techniques. It achieves high strength without impairing moldability with a molecular structure that differs from conventional polystyrene.

In general, the flowability of a polymer decreases as its molecular weight increases. However, HYBRANCH maintains flowability while having a high molecular weight by assuming a unique branching structure. In other words, HYBRANCH achieves high strength without impairing moldability.

Contributes to Increased Productivity and Cost Reductions

HYBRANCH has high melt tension in sheet/film production so it breaks with difficulty and holds promise for making thin wall moldings and increasing production stability. It also holds promise for improving thickness precision because of the molecular entanglement effect by the hyperbranched structure. HYBRANCH also has a high melt tension in foam extrusion, so foam breaks with difficulty, and it holds promise for making thin-walled and light-weight products by an improved foam expansion ratio and increased productivity.

HYBRANCH has a low ratio of change in flowability (MFR) after extrusion or injection molding so it holds promise to improve product stability when recycled.
